Hotels in Orlando That Allow 18-Year-Olds to Check In (2026)
This page contains affiliate links. If you book through one we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. It never changes which hotels appear here or what we say about them — the policies below are read from the properties themselves and dated.
Ten hotels in Orlando state a minimum check-in age of 18, and two of those we have confirmed on the hotel's own website as well as its booking listing. Most Orlando hotels sit at 21, so the ones that do not are worth knowing by name. Nearly all of them cluster on International Drive and around the Universal and Disney gates, where the budget inventory sits and the front desks are used to young guests turning up without a credit card. Below you get each property's real age rule, the deposit it holds, whether a debit card will do, and the date we last checked.
Our top 3 picks in Orlando
| Hotel | Our rating | Best for | Minimum age | Policy check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista | ★★★★½ 4.5/5 | a first solo trip built around Disney, paid for with a debit card | 18+ | Confirmed twice |
| B&B HOTEL Orlando International Drive near Universal | ★★★★½ 4.5/5 | a newly renovated room within walking distance of the I-Drive strip | 18+ | Single source |
| Meliá Orlando Celebration | ★★★★½ 4.5/5 | a group of three or four who want a kitchen and can split the rate | 18+ | Single source |
Our score is calculated, not opinion. Half of it is the property's own guest review score, 28% is how flexible it is about payment at the desk, and 22% is the size of the refundable deposit — the three things that actually decide whether a young traveller has a smooth check-in. How well we have verified the age policy is shown separately, as a badge, so a good hotel is never marked down for a gap in our own checking. When a property does not publish one of those details, that part simply does not count rather than being scored as bad.
Policies last read 2 September 2026. Of 28 Orlando properties we checked, 10 publish a minimum check-in age of 18 and 2 of those we confirmed a second time on the hotel’s own website. Hotels change these rules without notice, so call the property if your stay depends on it.
Our verified 18+ hotels in Orlando: checked, dated and worth booking
1. Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista
★★★★½ 4.5/5 · Guest score 8.1/10 (8,438 reviews) · Confirmed twice
If your trip is built around Disney and you are booking it yourself at 18, start here. This is the one property on the page where the hotel's own website and its booking listing both say 18, and the deposit is the smallest going.
Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista sits eight-tenths of a mile from Walt Disney World, close enough that the shuttle run is short and predictable rather than a 40-minute slog down I-4. It is family-owned, not a chain franchise, and that shows at the desk: the staff deal with young guests every day of the week.
The grounds are bigger than the rate suggests. Three outdoor pools, three restaurants, a playground, and a video game room that runs 24 hours, which matters more than it sounds when your flight lands at eleven at night. The Boardwalk Buffet handles breakfast and dinner; Comfort Zone Bar and Grill covers the evening. Rooms are plain and well equipped rather than stylish: free Wi-Fi, a microwave, a refrigerator, a laptop safe and a proper desk. There is a tour desk on site and a paid airport transfer if you would rather skip a rental car, which under 21 you will have to anyway.
At 8.1 from more than eight thousand reviews, this is the best-scored of the three Rosen Inns, and the volume means the number is trustworthy.
The honest caveat: it is a large, older property built for coach parties and families. If you want somewhere quiet or design-led, this is not it. What you get instead is a hotel that will actually let you in.
Best for: a first solo trip built around Disney, paid for with a debit card.
Why We Like This Property
- Age policy confirmed on the hotel's own site, not just its listing
- Only $50 held on arrival, the lowest deposit on this page
- Debit card accepted for the hold, no credit card needed
- Eight-tenths of a mile from Walt Disney World with park shuttles
- Three pools and a 24-hour game room for late arrivals
| Detail | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Minimum check-in age: 18 | You can check in on your own, with no older guest on the booking |
| Refundable deposit: US$50 | Held on your card at arrival and released after you check out |
| Debit card accepted | You do not need a credit card in your own name |
| Check-in from 4:00 PM, check-out by 11:00 AM | Arriving earlier, ask about bag storage rather than an early room |
| Confirmed on the hotel's own website | Two sources agree on the age, not one |
Popular facilities: 3 swimming pools · 3 restaurants · Free Wifi · Private parking · Family rooms · 24-hour front desk · Non-smoking rooms · Facilities for disabled guests

2. B&B HOTEL Orlando International Drive near Universal
★★★★½ 4.5/5 · Guest score 8.7/10 (1,199 reviews) · Single source
The highest-rated property on this page at 8.7, and the newest. If what you want is a clean, recently renovated room rather than pools and buffets, this is the pick.
This one sits under 1.2 miles from Universal Orlando Resort, on the busy stretch of International Drive, and it was renovated recently enough that the review scores still reflect it. An 8.7 is high for this price band anywhere in Orlando, and it comes from about twelve hundred reviews, so it is a real signal rather than a handful of early enthusiasts.
What you get is a simpler operation than the Rosen properties: an outdoor pool, free on-site parking, a tour desk, and ticket and concierge services at reception. Rooms have cable TV, a hairdryer and ironing facilities. There is no buffet restaurant and no arcade. The trade is a better room for the same money, and if you are spending your days at the parks rather than at the hotel, that is usually the right trade.
Artegon Marketplace is a five-minute drive, and the I-Drive restaurant strip is walkable from the door.
Two caveats worth knowing. The deposit is $100 rather than $50, so budget for twice the hold. And the property does not publish whether a debit card is accepted for it, which for this page's reader is the one thing you would most want to know. Ring reception before you book if a credit card is not an option for you.
Best for: a newly renovated room within walking distance of the I-Drive strip.
Why We Like This Property
- 8.7 guest score, the highest of any 18+ property in Orlando
- Recently renovated, so the room is newer than the price implies
- Under 1.2 miles from Universal Orlando Resort
- Free on-site parking, which most of I-Drive charges for
- Ticket and concierge desk at reception saves a park queue
| Detail | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Minimum check-in age: 18 | You can check in on your own, with no older guest on the booking |
| Refundable deposit: US$100 | Twice the hold of the Rosen properties, so plan your balance around it |
| Payment method not stated | Call reception to confirm a debit card will be accepted before booking |
| Pets not allowed | Not an option if you are travelling with an animal |
| Single source | The age is published on the booking listing; the hotel's own site does not state one |

3. Meliá Orlando Celebration
★★★★½ 4.5/5 · Guest score 8.4/10 (829 reviews) · Single source
The most upmarket property that still lets an 18-year-old check in, and an all-suite one at that. If you are splitting a room with three friends, the per-person cost lands closer to the budget hotels than the rate suggests.
Meliá Orlando is a Walt Disney World Good Neighbor hotel in Celebration, the town Disney originally built, 2.5 miles from the parks. It rates 8.4 from around eight hundred reviews, and it is the only property on this page that feels like a resort rather than a place to sleep between park days.
Every unit is a suite. That means a full-size kitchen with a refrigerator, stovetop, dishwasher and microwave, plus a separate living room with a 50-inch cable TV and a dining table. For a group of four, cooking two meals a day instead of eating on International Drive changes the arithmetic of the whole trip. There is an outdoor pool, a spa and wellness centre, a restaurant and room service, and free shuttles run to Disney, to Universal twelve miles out and to SeaWorld ten miles out. The airport shuttle is free too, which under 21 and without a rental car is worth real money.
Celebration itself is quiet and walkable, with its own small downtown — a different experience from the I-Drive strip, and a better one if you want to sleep.
The caveat: the property does not accept cash, and it publishes no deposit amount. Expect a hold on your card and ask what it will be when you book.
Best for: a group of three or four who want a kitchen and can split the rate.
Why We Like This Property
- Every room is a suite with a full kitchen and separate living room
- Free shuttles to Disney, Universal, SeaWorld and the airport
- 8.4 guest score, in a quiet walkable town rather than on I-Drive
- Spa, restaurant and room service on site
- Splitting a suite four ways beats a budget double per person

4. Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando
★★★★½ 4.5/5 · Guest score 8.1/10 (4,794 reviews) · Single source
The largest of the Rosen inns, with three pools and four restaurants, eight-tenths of a mile from the Orange County Convention Center. Same $50 deposit and the same debit-card policy.
Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando is two miles from SeaWorld and eight-tenths of a mile from the Convention Center, with free shuttles to Universal. It is the biggest property in the family and the one with the most to do without leaving: three outdoor pools, four restaurants, a video game room with air hockey, and a playground.
The Plaza Garden Restaurant covers breakfast and dinner, and the Lite Bite Mini-Mart runs 24 hours, which is genuinely useful when your first day starts at six for a park opening. Rooms are contemporary and warmly decorated with a microwave, fridge and coffee maker, free Wi-Fi, a laptop safe and a desk.
It scores 8.1 from nearly five thousand reviews, level with Lake Buena Vista and a touch above International Drive.
One thing to be clear about: unlike the Lake Buena Vista property, we have not yet been able to confirm this hotel's age policy on its own website. The 18 comes from the property's published policy on its booking listing, which is the same source the whole industry uses, but it is one source rather than two. If the booking is tight or the trip is expensive, ring the property and ask before you pay.
Best for: staying near the Convention Center with the most on-site facilities.
Why We Like This Property
- Three pools and four restaurants, the most of any property here
- $50 deposit with a debit card accepted
- Eight-tenths of a mile from the Orange County Convention Center
- 24-hour mini-mart for early park mornings
- 8.1 from nearly 5,000 reviews

5. Rosen Inn International Near The Parks
★★★★½ 4.5/5 · Guest score 8.0/10 (9,512 reviews) · Confirmed twice
The Rosen property most 18-year-olds in Orlando end up at, and not by accident. Five minutes from Universal, $50 deposit, debit card accepted, and the age policy confirmed twice.
Rosen Inn International sits on International Drive about five minutes from Universal. It is the biggest of the family's three inns and the one with the longest track record: nearly ten thousand reviews averaging 8.0, which for a property this size is a settled number rather than a lucky streak.
There are two outdoor pools, three restaurants including the Fountain View buffet, a games room and a children's playground. Rooms are unfussy and properly equipped: microwave, small refrigerator, coffee maker, flat-screen cable TV, free Wi-Fi. Free shuttles run to the parks and the front desk sells tickets and arranges car rental, which makes this one of the few budget properties on I-Drive where you can manage a full week without your own car. Under 21 you cannot rent one anyway, so that matters more here than it would elsewhere.
The fine print is unusually specific and unusually helpful: a government-issued photo ID and a matching credit or debit card with a security chip. A debit card being named outright is rare, and it is the single reason this property keeps appearing in forum threads written by people your age.
The caveat is the same as its sister properties: it is large, it is busy, and it is built for volume. Come for the policy and the location, not the design.
Best for: a Universal trip where you are paying with a debit card.
Why We Like This Property
- Debit card named outright in the property's own fine print
- Age confirmed on the hotel's website as well as its listing
- $50 deposit, released after check-out
- Free park shuttles and a ticket desk, so no rental car needed
- Nearly 10,000 reviews behind its 8.0 score

| Refundable deposit: US$50 | Held on your card at arrival and released after you check out |

| Government-issued photo ID required | The name on the ID must match the name on the card |
| Check-in from 4:00 PM, check-out by 11:00 AM | The desk is staffed until midnight for late arrivals |

6. Rosen Inn Closest to Universal
★★★★½ 4.5/5 · Guest score 7.9/10 (7,359 reviews) · Single source
The name is literal: roughly 1,470 feet from Universal Orlando Resort, close enough to walk. Same ownership and the same debit-friendly policy as the other Rosen Inns.
This is the closest hotel on the page to a park gate. Universal Orlando Resort is about 1,470 feet away, which makes walking a genuine option rather than a marketing claim, though the free shuttle still runs to Universal and SeaWorld. The Orange County Convention Center is roughly three miles out if you are in town for something other than the rides.
Rooms are warm-toned with dark hardwood furniture, a laptop safe, cable TV, a microwave and a refrigerator. There is an outdoor pool, an arcade, and the Palms Dining Room on site for breakfast. The front desk runs 24 hours and sells park tickets, which is the practical difference between a good first day and a wasted morning in a queue.
At 7.9 from more than seven thousand reviews it scores marginally below its sister properties. Read that as consistent rather than poor: a property this size holding a 7.9 across seven thousand stays is doing the basics reliably.
The caveat is the building. It is older than the B&B Hotel down the road and the rooms show it. What you are buying is the walk to the gate and a front desk that takes a debit card without an argument.
Best for: a Universal-only trip where you want to walk to the gate.
Why We Like This Property
- About 1,470 feet from Universal Orlando Resort, walkable
- Debit card accepted for the $50 hold
- 24-hour front desk that sells park tickets
- Free shuttles to Universal and SeaWorld as well
- Over 7,000 reviews behind a steady 7.9

7. Spark by Hilton Orlando Universal Boulevard
★★★★½ 4.5/5 · Guest score 8.0/10 (1,404 reviews) · Single source
The only major-chain property on this page with a stated minimum age of 18. Most Hilton and Marriott hotels in Orlando sit at 21, which makes this a genuine outlier.
Spark is Hilton's budget brand, and this location runs free transfers to both Disney World and Universal Studios with a continental breakfast served daily. The Orange County Convention Center is 2.3 miles away and Universal is within a ten-minute drive.
If you have stayed in chain budget hotels before you know the shape of it: an outdoor pool, a fitness centre, a game room, a gift shop, and rooms that are clean and predictable rather than characterful. The one-bedroom suites are unusually spacious for the price and come with a microwave and refrigerator, which is the difference between eating breakfast in the room and paying I-Drive prices for it.
It scores 8.0 from about fourteen hundred reviews.
The thing to plan for is the chain-hotel version of check-in. Franchised front desks tend to enforce the rules exactly as written: the name on the booking, the name on the ID and the name on the card all have to match, and there is less room for a friendly exception than at a family-run inn. The property does not accept cash and does not state whether a debit card is acceptable for the $50 hold. If you are relying on a debit card, call the hotel directly rather than the central reservations line, because policies like this are set locally.
Best for: a chain-standard room with free shuttles to both Disney and Universal.
Why We Like This Property
- A major-chain property that still states 18, which is rare
- Free transfers to Disney World and Universal, not just one
- Continental breakfast included every day
- Spacious one-bedroom suites with a microwave and fridge
- $50 deposit, the low end for a chain hotel

8. Cambria Hotel Orlando Airport
★★★★☆ 4.0/5 · Guest score 8.2/10 (726 reviews) · Single source
Six-tenths of a mile from Orlando International Airport with a free airport shuttle. This is the first-night or last-night hotel, not the theme-park base.
Cambria Hotel Orlando Airport is the newest-feeling property on this page and the most convenient one if your flight lands late or leaves early. The airport is six-tenths of a mile away and the shuttle is free, which under 21 and without a rental car turns a $50 rideshare into nothing.
Inside it is a proper mid-range hotel rather than a budget one: a year-round outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, a terrace, a restaurant serving American food with a bar attached, a lounge, an outdoor seating area and a business area. Rooms have free Wi-Fi and air conditioning and feel current. Florida Mall is about five miles away.
It scores 8.2, though from a smaller base of about seven hundred reviews, so treat that as promising rather than proven.
Be clear about what this is not. You are twenty-odd minutes from the parks and you would be driving or riding out there every day, which for a week-long trip adds up fast in both money and time. The property also publishes no deposit amount, which does not mean there is no hold — assume there is one and ask when you book. It does not accept cash. Use it for the nights either side of your flights and stay nearer the gates in between.
Best for: the night you land or the night before you fly out.
Why We Like This Property
- Six-tenths of a mile from the airport with a free shuttle
- Year-round outdoor pool, fitness centre and on-site restaurant
- 8.2 guest score, the newest-feeling property on this page
- No rental car needed, which matters under 21
- Quiet compared with the International Drive strip

9. Days Inn by Wyndham Orlando Conv. Center/International Dr
★★★★☆ 4.0/5 · Guest score 7.8/10 (2,100 reviews) · Single source
A straightforward budget room in the busiest part of International Drive, a five-minute walk from the Orange County Convention Center. The cheapest way onto the strip at 18.
This is the no-frills option, and it is honest about being one. The Orange County Convention Center is a five-minute walk and a three-minute drive, and the I-Drive shopping and dining strip starts at the door, so you can spend a week here without arranging transport for anything except the parks themselves.
Rooms are air-conditioned with a microwave, refrigerator, hairdryer and cable TV with premium channels. Coffee makers, irons and boards come on request rather than as standard. There is an outdoor pool and free parking. It scores 7.8 from around two thousand one hundred reviews, which is a fair reflection: nobody writes a rave about a Days Inn, and nobody needs to.
One thing the listing is upfront about and you should factor in: Wi-Fi is charged at about $4.95 a day rather than being included. Over a week that is another $35, which on a budget trip is a park meal. Bring your own data if you can.
The deposit is $50 and the property does not accept cash. It does not state whether a debit card is acceptable for the hold, so ask when you book if that is your only option.
Best for: the lowest rate within walking distance of the Convention Center.
Why We Like This Property
- Five-minute walk to the Orange County Convention Center
- On the I-Drive strip, so food and shops are on the doorstep
- $50 deposit, the low end for the area
- Free parking and an outdoor pool
- Microwave and fridge in every room for cheap breakfasts

10. Best Western Orlando Gateway Hotel
★★★½☆ 3.5/5 · Guest score 7.7/10 (6,000 reviews) · Single source
The most to do on site of any hotel on this page, with a heated pool, two hot tubs, a gym and a basketball court. Good if you are travelling as a group and will actually use them.
Best Western Orlando Gateway runs free shuttles to SeaWorld and Universal and has more on-site recreation than anything else in this price band: a heated outdoor pool, two hot tubs, a state-of-the-art gym and a basketball court. Sharky and Jack's covers breakfast and dinner.
Rooms have a flat-screen TV with cable, a refrigerator, a coffee maker and a microwave, and some come with a sofa bed, which is worth looking for if you are splitting a room three or four ways. Complimentary Wi-Fi is included, which after the Days Inn is worth saying out loud.
It scores 7.7 from around six thousand reviews, the lowest number on this page. That is not a warning so much as a description: a big, busy, functional hotel that does the job without delighting anyone.
Two things to plan for. It is fourteen miles from Walt Disney World, so this is a Universal and SeaWorld base, not a Disney one — if your trip is Disney-led, look at Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista instead. And the deposit is $100 rather than $50, with no statement about whether a debit card is accepted for it. Pets are not allowed.
Best for: a group who want a pool, a gym and a court without leaving the hotel.
Why We Like This Property
- Heated pool, two hot tubs, gym and basketball court on site
- Free shuttles to SeaWorld and Universal Studios
- Sofa beds in some rooms, useful for splitting a rate
- Wi-Fi included rather than charged daily
- On-site restaurant open for breakfast and dinner

You may also like these hotels in Orlando
None of the ten above quite right? These are good Orlando hotels that we checked and that do NOT allow 18-year-olds to check in. We list them because a lot of readers arrive here at 21 or 22, and because knowing which doors are closed is worth as much as knowing which are open. Every age below is the property's own published rule.
Summer Bay Orlando MOD Collection by Sonesta — 21+
A large resort property closer to Disney than most of I-Drive, with more space per dollar than the strip hotels. The deposit is US$250 and cash is not accepted, so it is the most card-dependent option here. Worth a look if you are 21 or over and travelling as a group.
DoubleTree by Hilton at the Entrance to Universal Orlando — 21+
As close to the Universal gate as anything in the city, with full Hilton service. No deposit amount is published and cash is not accepted. If you are 21 and want the walk to Universal without the older-building trade-off of the Rosen inns, this is the upgrade.
Wyndham I-Drive Avanti Resort & Conference Center — 21+
A resort-scale property in the middle of International Drive with a US$50 hold, which is low for its size. Cash is not accepted. Good middle ground for a 21-plus traveller who wants resort facilities without resort pricing.
Hotel Monreale Inn & Studios I-Drive Icon Park Orlando — 21+
Studio-style rooms right by Icon Park, which puts the wheel, the aquarium and a run of restaurants within walking distance. The deposit is US$200 and cash is not accepted, so budget for the hold. The location is the reason to book it.
Galleria Palms Orlando — 21+
Free theme-park shuttles and a US$100 hold, positioned for Disney rather than Universal. Cash is not accepted. A straightforward budget choice for a 21-plus traveller who wants shuttles without paying resort rates.
Marriott Orlando Downtown — 21+
Downtown rather than the tourist corridor, which means restaurants and bars that locals actually use and a very different evening. No deposit amount is published. Best if you are 21 or over, here for a conference or a city break, and not planning on the parks every day.
What to look for before booking a hotel in Orlando
The Age Rule Applies To The Person At The Desk
Every policy on this page describes the lead guest, the person who signs the registration card and hands over a card for the incidentals. It does not matter who paid or whose name is on the reservation. If a parent books the room and you are checking in alone at 18, the property's 18 rule is what governs, and a 21 rule will stop you even though an adult made the booking. If the booking name and the arriving guest are different people, ring the hotel before you travel and ask them to note it on the reservation.
Deposits And Card Holds Are The Real Cost
The rate is not the whole number. Every property here places a refundable hold for incidentals on arrival, between $50 and $100 on this page and up to $250 elsewhere in the city. On a credit card that is invisible. On a debit card it is money genuinely gone from your balance for up to two weeks after you check out. Work out what you will actually have available on day three of the trip, not day one.
Credit Card, Debit Card, Or Neither
This stops more young travellers than the age rule does. Some Orlando hotels take a debit card with a chip for the hold; others require a credit card in the guest's own name and will not budge. Two properties on this page name a debit card explicitly in their own fine print. The rest say nothing, and nothing is not the same as no. When it matters, call the hotel's own number rather than a central reservations line, because these rules are set locally and the call centre often reads from a different script.
The ID And The Card Have To Match
A government-issued photo ID whose name matches the card you present. A passport, a driving licence or a state ID all work; a student card does not, and neither does a photo of your ID on your phone at most properties. This mismatch is the most common reason a young guest is turned away, and it has nothing to do with age at all.
Where In Orlando You Actually Want To Be
Orlando is not one destination, it is three, and the wrong choice costs you an hour a day. International Drive is the budget corridor: closest to Universal and SeaWorld, walkable to food and shops, busiest and noisiest. Lake Buena Vista and Celebration sit next to Disney and are quieter but have less around them. The airport district is twenty-odd minutes from every park and makes sense only for the first or last night. Pick the gate you will use most and stay near it, because at 18 you are relying on shuttles that run on someone else's timetable.
Getting To And From The Airport
Orlando International is a long way from the parks and a rideshare each way adds up fast. Two properties on this page run a free airport shuttle; the rest do not, though some offer a paid transfer through the front desk. If your flight lands late or leaves before dawn, a free airport shuttle is worth more than a better room, and it is the single easiest saving on the whole trip. Check whether the shuttle needs booking in advance, because most do.
Park Shuttles, Parking And Moving Around Without A Car
You cannot hire a car in Florida under 21, so how a hotel moves you is not a nice-to-have. Almost every property on this page runs free shuttles to at least one park, but they differ in which parks, how often, and whether the last run is before the fireworks end. Ask the front desk for the timetable on arrival rather than assuming. Parking is free at some of these hotels and charged at others, which only matters if someone in your group is old enough to drive. The I-Ride Trolley covers International Drive cheaply and runs late.
Which Facilities Are Free And Which Are Billed
Two hotels with the same rate can differ by $40 a day once the extras land. Wi-Fi is included at most of these properties and charged at about $4.95 a day at one of them. Breakfast is included at some and a buffet charge at others. Parking swings between free and paid. And a resort fee, where one exists, is charged per night on top of the rate and is not always visible at booking. Add the extras before you compare two rates.
Room Features That Quietly Save Money
A microwave and a fridge turn a supermarket run into three breakfasts and cut a week's food bill more than any discount code. Most rooms on this page have both. A full kitchen, which the all-suite property offers, changes the arithmetic again if you are cooking for four. A sofa bed lets three or four people split one rate legitimately — check the stated occupancy rather than assuming, because exceeding it is another way to have a problem at the desk.
Read The Guest Score Against Its Review Count
An 8.7 from twelve hundred reviews and a 7.9 from seven thousand are not the same claim. The big number is a settled average across years of stays; the small one can still move. Neither is better on its own — a new property with a high score and a thin count is often a genuinely better room, and an older property holding a steady score across thousands of stays is doing the basics reliably. Decide which of those two things you want.
What to see and do in Orlando at 18
Everything The City Is Famous For Is Open To You
Orlando is easier at 18 than most American cities, because almost nothing it is known for has an age gate. Walt Disney World, Universal, Epic Universe, SeaWorld and Icon Park all sell you a ticket at 18 and let you ride everything inside. So do the water parks and Gatorland. Nobody at a park gate will ask your age for anything except alcohol.
What Is Gated, And At What Age
Three things will stop you. Car hire is 21 in Florida and carries a young-driver surcharge until 25, which shapes the whole trip. Bars, clubs and the pool bars inside the resorts are 21 and up, and parts of Universal CityWalk switch to 21-plus wristbands late in the evening. Buying alcohol or tobacco anywhere in the state is 21. Everything else — restaurants, Disney Springs, CityWalk earlier in the day, cinemas, mini golf, the observation wheel — is open to you.
Getting Around Without A Rental Car
Since hiring a car is out, plan around three things: your hotel's free park shuttles, the I-Ride Trolley that runs the length of International Drive for a couple of dollars a ride, and rideshare for everything else. Lynx buses cover the city cheaply but slowly. Staying near the gate you will use most is worth more than any of them, which is why the location section above matters as much as the room.
Days Out Beyond The Parks
A park day is expensive and a week of them is exhausting. The Kennedy Space Center is about an hour east and is a full day on its own. Wekiwa Springs and Blue Spring, both under an hour north, are natural swimming holes with a small entry fee and no age rules. Cocoa Beach is roughly an hour away for a free day on the sand. All three are the cheapest good days in the region.
Where To Eat Without A Bar Tab
The International Drive strip is convenient and priced for tourists. The Mills 50 district north of downtown is where the Vietnamese and Thai restaurants are, it is a fraction of the price, and nobody there will ask your age. Disney Springs and CityWalk both have plenty of food that is not attached to a bar, though you pay the location premium. And if your room has a microwave and a fridge, a single supermarket trip covers breakfast for the week.
Frequently asked questions
Can an 18-year-old check into a hotel in Orlando?
Yes, at some properties. Of the twenty-eight Orlando hotels we checked, ten publish a minimum check-in age of 18 and fifteen require 21. There is no Florida law setting a minimum, so each hotel decides for itself, which is why the answer changes from one property to the next on the same street. Book from a list where the policy has actually been read, and bring photo ID and a card in your own name.
Why do most Orlando hotels require you to be 21?
It comes down to the damage deposit. The hotel is holding money against your card and wants a guest who can enter that contract without question, and many chains align the check-in age with the drinking age because of minibars, pool bars and liability inside the property. It is a business policy, not a legal requirement, which is exactly why some hotels set it at 18 instead.
Do I need a credit card, or will a debit card work?
It varies by property, and it stops more young travellers than the age rule does. Two hotels on this page name a credit or debit card with a security chip in their own fine print, so a debit card is explicitly fine there. The others do not state a rule, which means you should call and ask rather than assume. Where a debit card is accepted, expect the deposit to leave your balance for up to two weeks after check-out.
How much is the deposit at an 18+ hotel in Orlando?
Among the properties on this page, between $50 and $100, refundable, held on arrival and released after you check out. Two hotels publish no amount at all, which does not mean there is no hold: assume there is one and ask when you book. Elsewhere in Orlando deposits run as high as $250, so the ones here are at the friendlier end.
Can someone else book the room for me to check into at 18?
The age rule applies to the person checking in and signing the registration card, not to whoever paid. A parent booking the room does not change what happens at the desk. If the reservation is in a different name from the person arriving, call the property first and ask them to note it, because a mismatch between the booking name, the ID and the card is the most common reason a guest is refused.
What ID do I need to check in?
A government-issued photo ID, meaning a passport, driving licence or state ID, whose name matches the card you hand over. A student card is not enough at most properties, and neither is a photo of your ID on your phone. Some Orlando hotels accept digital identification and some do not, so carry the physical document even when your hotel says it takes a digital one.
What happens if the hotel refuses to check me in?
You will usually be offered a refund of the room rate, but not of anything non-refundable you booked around it, and you will be standing in a lobby needing somewhere to sleep. This is the situation the page exists to prevent. If you have any doubt, ring the property's own number a few days before you travel, ask the question plainly, and note the name of the person who answered.
Does the age rule apply to everyone staying in the room?
Usually only to the lead guest, the one who registers. Most Orlando properties allow younger guests in the room provided the person checking in meets the minimum age. A few require every adult on the booking to qualify. If your group is mixed, put the oldest eligible person on the reservation as the lead guest and confirm the arrangement with the property.
Are hostels easier than hotels at 18?
Generally yes. Hostels set their minimum age at 18 far more often, take smaller deposits, and are more relaxed about debit cards. Orlando has fewer of them than a city of its size normally would, and they cluster away from the parks, so you trade convenience for the easier check-in. For a solo traveller on a tight budget it is worth pricing both before you decide.
How often do you re-check these policies?
Every listing on this page carries the date it was last read, and we re-check the city on a rolling schedule. Hotels change these rules without announcing them, so a date matters more than a claim does. If you find a policy that has changed since our last check, tell us and we will re-verify it and update the page.
Which one should you book?
If you are here for Universal and paying by debit card, book Rosen Inn International or Rosen Inn Closest to Universal. Both name a debit card in their own fine print and both hold only $50. If your trip is Disney-led, Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista is the one property on this page whose age policy we have confirmed on the hotel's own website as well as its listing. If you want a newer room, take the B&B Hotel; if you are splitting a suite with a kitchen between four people, take Meliá Orlando Celebration. And whichever you choose, bring a government-issued photo ID whose name matches the card you hand over. That single detail prevents more refusals at the desk than the age rule ever causes.
